- 3Enter your list price (without VAT) and how many copies you expect to sell.
- 4Read your royalty per copy, per month and per year — and try a different price.
KDP royalty FAQ
How is the KDP paperback royalty calculated?
Royalty = royalty rate × list price − printing cost. On Amazon the rate is 60 % from $9.99 (£7.99, €9.99, CA$13.99, A$13.99, ¥1000) and 50 % below; Expanded Distribution pays 40 %. Example: a 300-page black-ink 6×9 book at $9.99 earns 0.60 × 9.99 − 4.60 = $1.39.
How much does KDP charge to print a paperback?
A fixed cost plus a per-page cost, set by marketplace, ink, paper and trim. On Amazon.com black-ink books up to 110 pages cost a flat $2.30 (regular trim) or $2.84 (large trim); longer books cost $1.00 + $0.012 per page (regular) or $0.017 per page (large).
What counts as a large trim size?
Anything wider than 6.12" or taller than 9" — for example 7×10, 8×10, 8.5×11 and 8.5×8.5. Large trims cost more to print; the exact size within each group does not change the price.
Is VAT included in the list price?
No. For print books you enter the list price without VAT; Amazon adds the tax, and the royalty is calculated on the price without it.
Should I choose 35 % or 70 % for my Kindle eBook?
On Amazon.com the 70 % option pays 70 % of the price minus a delivery cost of $0.15 per MB, for prices from $2.99 to $12.99. Outside that range only 35 % is possible. For most eBooks under 10 MB, 70 % pays much more.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses the rates published on KDP’s help pages (checked October 2026). KDP rounds to the cent and can change its prices, so always confirm the final numbers in your KDP bookshelf before you publish.
